ELIZABETH THORPE – Chambersburg Church of the Brethren – Minister
of Music and Congregational Life

List local congregational, District or National responsibilities, past or
present to which you have served or are currently serving.
Minister of Music and Congregational Life, Chambersburg Church of the
Brethren; Distance Learning committee, Bethany Theological Seminary;
currently service on District Nurture Commission and District Board.

Share your understanding of the relationship of the District structure with the local congregation.
The district is the governing body for a geographical region within the Church of the Brethren
denomination. The commissions and committees of the district provide leadership, assistance, and
spiritual growth opportunities to help build community among the congregations within the district.

Describe the gifts God has given you to continue the work of Jesus; particularly through the position
to which you have been nominated.
Through my experiences as a minister of music, spiritual director, and administrative assistant in various
settings, God has helped me develop skills in leadership, organization, and interpersonal
communication, while continually seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit for further growth.

How do you foresee implementing the gifts above to the position which you are being nominated?
I have served on the district board for three years, two of which I have been the Nurture commission
Chair. I believe God has equipped me for this position and will continue to equip and guide me in the
ministry of service.

List the intercultural experiences you have been a part of during the past 5-8 years.
Trip to Iona, Scotland and England for seminary cross-cultural.

List local congregational, District or National responsibilities, past or
present to which you have served or are currently serving.
It’s been my privilege to serve the past ten years in Pastoral ministry as Sr.
Pastor in both the Atlantic Northeast and The Southern PA Districts.
Currently I serve on the District Ethics Committee other than that, I have
never held a District or Denominational position.

Share your understanding of the relationship of the District structure with the local
