Purpose
To provide an opportunity to live and work together in Nigeria with Christians from the Church of the Brethren, Ekklesiyar Yan'uwa a Nigeria (EYN), and the Basel Mission in Europe.
The Project
Continued construction of a secondary school next to EYN Headquarters located near Mubi. With the current economic and governmental conditions in Nigeria, there is a need to provide continuous quality education for the members of EYN. Participants must be willing to do physical labor including masonry, carpentry, painting, plastering and cooking. Construction experience is helpful but not required. A willingness to interact with the other workcampers and participate in activities is expected.
ActivitiesLiving Conditions
- Meet with EYN leadership and worship in local churches
- Visit village markets and other cultural events
- Discuss topics of mutual interest with Nigerians
- Spend a night or two in a Nigerian home
- See mission programs in action and meet their staff
On the project, dormitory style with the Nigerians (no private accommodations). Other times in guest houses and /or homes. Meals will consist of a variety of Nigerian food and sometimes simple American food. Participants should come prepared for a culinary experience.
Approximate Cost
$1995 - This includes round trip travel from the closest airport and all living expenses while in Nigeria. Note: Travel expenses incurred to enable donated services are often tax deductible. Consult your tax advisor regarding this deduction.
Leadership
Jeff Mummau is the workcamp coordinator. Jeff has participated in six workcamps to Nigeria, as well as leading several tour bus trips to National Youth Conference. The Basel Mission and EYN will each appoint a representative to work with Jeff on the total leadership of the workcamp while in Nigeria.
