LOCATION: The Palms Estates Retirement Community is located in Lorida, Florida, a central Florida location within a one hour's drive to Cypress Gardens and 1 1/2 hours drive to Orlando attractions. The East and West Coasts are both within 2 hour's driving distance.

    DESCRIPTION: The Palms Estates is an independent living community affiliated with the Church of the Brethren for residents 55 years of age or older. The community consists of 72 homes consisting of constructed homes, double wide mobile homes and single wide mobile homes on leased lots. There are lots available for placement of additional homes. Thirty seven RV sites accommodate self contained travel campers and motor homes. Shower and laundry facilities are available in the RV area.

    FACILITIES: A 1000 tree citrus grove of oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit provide for residents and RVers own use. A screened-in heated swimming pool provides recreation and also therapy for arthritic tendencies. The large fellowship hall accommodates Wednesday morning coffee hours, planned activities, carry-in meals and game nights. There is a library stocked with good books and magazines for those quiet times. The hobby house lends itself to crafts, ceramics, ping pong, pool and exercise equipment. Shuffleboard courts and horseshoes are available to test your competitive skills. The canal running through the Palms Estates leads to the 28,000 acre Lake Istokpoga for boating and fishing enthusiasts. Several golf courses are within a half hour drive and the Lorida Church of the Brethren is adjacent to the Palms Estates grounds.

    ORGANIZATION/MANAGEMENT: The Palms Estates is owned and operated by its own Board of Directors. The sponsoring agency is the Church of the Brethren Atlantic Southeast District which elects members to the Board. Larry and Brenda Dobson are the Executive Directors who carry out the responsibilities for the operation of the community under the direction of the Board. The residents of the community are organized with officers elected annually and with regular business meetings.
