As the Pastor of Manor Church of the Brethren, I have been blessed to have served this congregation over the last 10 years. We have an uniquely strong, energetic and diverse Christian community that meets within these simple stone walls. Yet, for over 200 years, this congregation, bound by their rich Brethren heritage and committed discipleship to Jesus, has continued to reach beyond their own walls in a loving effort to embrace, encourage, support, teach, enrich, nurture and serve: not just their own members: but those of their brothers and sisters in need throughout the surrounding community and world as well. They continue to prove that a church's true impact is measured more by the everyday witness and discipleship of its membership than by a huge and elaborate structure. Members remain committed to regular attendance at both worship and the mid-week Bible study group, where a warm and inclusive atmosphere endears them to each other, even as they welcome all newcomers. Stewardship of time, talents and material resources abound as members generously volunteer to meet every congregational need: providing organ, piano and vocal music, general maintenance and repairs, mowing, cleaning, teaching, food preparation and accounting. Congregants participate materially and physically through their own and congregational support of activities like disaster relief, health kits, meat canning, One Great Hour of Sharing, Heifer Project, food banks, homeless shelters, free health clinics, ecological cleanup, recycling, and ecumenical relief efforts.

Strong attendance at the numerous opportunities for both church-wide and age-appropriate fellowship that have proliferated prove that the church family also likes to play as well as to worship, work and serve together.

As we continue to celebrate the Manor Church of the Brethren's anniversaries, I give thanks for the opportunity to serve these people. I pray that God will continue to bless our work together.
