"Breakthrough" 2009 Theme
....."What would it have been like to meet Jesus? In story after story, Jesus pulled down walls of prejudice, offered release from bondage, and provided loving attention to the forgotten and healing to the sick. These encounters resulted in a breakthrough - a chance to move beyond the present situation into a life-changing experience. Camp this summer will explore a series of biblical stories that tell of these transforming encounters with Jesus." Week-at-a-glance:

  • Jesus Welcomes - Mark 10:13-16 - The story of Jesus and the Children
  • Jesus Listens - Mark 10:46-52 - The story of Jesus and the Blind Man
  • Jesus Shows Compassion - Luke 5:17-26 - The story of Jesus and the Man with Paralysis
  • Jesus Loves - Luke 10:25-37 - The Parable of the Good Samaritan
  • Jesus Transforms - Luke 13:10-17 - The story of Jesus and the Bent-over Woman
  • Jesus Invites - Luke 14:12-24 - The Parable of the Great Banquet

Please consider spending a week at Camp exploring these ideas with the family of faith in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Camp Setting and Weather:
Camp Peaceful Pines is in the Stanislaus National Forest on Sonora Pass (one pass north of Yosemite) near the Dardanelles. Across the Clark Fork Road to the south is the Sand Flat Campground and good stream for wading and fishing.     The main lodge and kitchen are at 6,180 feet, with cabins dotting the the hill above almost to the upper camp limit at 6,250 feet. It is a half hour walk to the top of "Sunrise Rock" 250 feet above the lodge. Our largest Ponderosa and Jeffery pines reach 4 feet in diameter. The Firs and Oaks provide a denser shade.
Early July is still spring at our elevation with snow flowers, wild roses and iris in the meadow west of camp. Spring days are in the 70s with frost on some nights. Summers are dry. Temperatures can reach the high 80s with nights in the low 40s. Often there will be an afternoon rain shower. We have a wide variety of animal life. Deer, squirrels, raccoons and the occasional black bear pass through camp. There are many kinds of lizards, but poisonous snakes are rare at our altitude.

Counselor-in-Training Program
Those who love Camp Peaceful Pines and want to be counselors in the future are welcome to apply for positions as Counselors-in-Training. This is an opportunity for them to help out and get a feel for what it is like to serve as a counselor. All CITs will work under the direction of a counselor and the Camp Director. CITs must be at least 16 years old, at least 4 years older than the oldest camper they would work with, and be experienced with Church camping. Those interested may get an application form online or by contacting Russ Matteson, Program Committee chair. Applications are due by April 15. Program Committee will make selections by mid-May. College students may apply to be CIT's at Youth Camp.
Counselors - Volunteer!
Age level camps can't happen without the gracious gift of time and energy of folks willing to serve as Counselors. If you are interested in helping in this way, contact either the director of the camp you can help with or Russ Matteson, Program Committee chair. Counselors must be at least 18 years old, at least 4 years older than the oldest camper they would work with, and ideally have some experience having attended Church camp.
Health Information Forms
Beginning in 2009, all campers and staff, regardless of age, will need to have a completed "Health Information Form" on file with the camp nurse/office. Due to the remote location of camp, the elevation, and the rugged terrain, injuries or illness can occur to any one who is at camp and the nurse needs to know what medications or medical conditions the person may have. Family and Discovery campers should send in completed health forms with their registrations. Thank you all for your cooperation in helping to make the camping experience safer for all involved.

Short of Funds? The Camp Board believes that EVERYONE should be able to go to camp regardless of financial ability. Many churches and individuals are ready and willing to help you financially. Ask them.
.....In addition, the camp has scholarship funds available. Requests for funds must come through your local church. Contact the Registrar, Peggy Castañeda for more infomation, at Fax: 209-578-0670   Voice: 209-521-1525   campPPregister@gmail.com

Note: If you email the registrar with your intent to attend, your payment must follow within 10-15 days to be considered "registered."
