Imagine sitting around the campfire on a warm summer evening, listening to personal stories about life at Church Camp as told by the campers themselves. Many of these experiences have made a life long impact on young campers. Relationships can develop at camp which deepens a persons maturity and prepares them to become future church leaders. Sharing these experiences can help us better understand others and the social culture from which they come. Listen now as they share with us their most impressionable moments at camp. |
Last summer at Senior High Camp, there was a vesper service on top of a hill on Camp Colorado property. After the vespers service, a few campers started singing. These girls sang and sang for almost an hour. Soon, they realized two things. First, that they sounded good together, and second, that they would all be at McPherson College in the fall! The group decided to debut at the talent show, featuring the song "Soon and Very Soon" they decided to continue the group at Mac, singing wherever and whatever. The first performance of the group was at a community worship service on national AIDS day. The group was well received, and thus "A Light" was born.
Through out this past year "A Light" has performed all over Kansas, and even had one performance in Colorado. After a successful year together, the group decided to record a tape. The seven girls piled in cars and headed to Wichita to a professional recording studio. They had a great time recording and are very pleased with the results.
The group consists of Jenny Stover, Sara Wagoner, Erin Flory, Sarah Marie Hendricks, Sara Stover, Genelle Wine, and Becky Ullom. We are very exited about sharing our musical talent. We were invited to sing at District Conference, but due to summer jobs had to decline. Our next goal is to be invited to perform at NYC 1998 in Ft. Collins.
We owe our beginnings to Camp Colorado. When we introduce our group, we
acknowledge Camp Colorado for bringing us together. We hope "A Light"
can continue to entertain many more groups in the future.
