Fire-side

Imagine sitting around the campfire on a warm summer evening, listening to personal stories about life at Church Camp as told by the campers themselves. Many of these experiences have made a life long impact on young campers. Relationships can develop at camp which deepens a persons maturity and prepares them to become future church leaders. Sharing these experiences can help us better understand others and the social culture from which they come. Listen now as they share with us their most impressionable moments at camp.

“Friends are all that matter in life”

by Angela Kaye Holsinger

My favorite camp experience, I would have to say, isn't that unusual. It was during the winter retreat at Camp Blue Diamond in Huntingdon, PA of July 1999. I am from the Roaring Spring First Church of the Brethren. I was having the most fun just hanging out with several friends whom I have known for years. Some of the people were Adam Houser, Steve Hershberger, my sister Mandy Holsinger, and many other people that I met. I know it doesn't seem like it was that unusual but it was the best weekend of my life. I remember those times and I wish I could repeat those special and memorable moments. I also loved being with my youth pastor Dave Witkovsky that whole weekend not knowing at the same time a year later he would be located at another church.

Now a year later I realize that friends are the most important people in your life. In the last year it was really upsetting to lose such a wonderful pastor but I know it was for the best. Yesterday was the annual volleyball tournament at Juniata College and that gave me a chance to reunite with all my camp friends which made me feel so happy!!
