Missing Book 10/10/99
    Does this beginning of a "history" sound familiar to anyone? I'm trying to authenticate it. It starts off like this: "There is much of interesting history and biography connected with this branch of the MILLER Family, which is of German origin and the descent is in unbroken line, from Isaac MULLER, born about the middle of the 17th century ... village of Frankinberg, on the banks of the Eder ..." The history goes on to discuss religious persecution, fleeing to Holland, then Scotland and finally bringing the family to PA in about 1734. The "history" says they were among the founders of the Dunkard Church. Supposedly someone saw this same history in a book on PA history, but I have not been able to find this "book." Any help appreciated. Surnames of wives are BRANDT, ZOOK(ZUG), AKIN, SCOTT, SANFORD.

Thanks,
John Sandy

Volunteer Service Workers 09/30/99
    Paxton Ministries is a Christian residential facility for poor and disadvantaged adults in Harrisburg, PA. We are an inter-denominational ministry with a covenant relationship to the Brethren in Christ church. We are seeking Voluntary Service (VS) workers willing to serve a term of 3 months to one year. VS workers at Paxton Ministries live in a Christian community setting together with staff and residents and receive a monthly stipend and health insurance in addition to room and board. Current position openings are in the kitchen, maintenance, and housekeeping/laundry departments, but other opportunities may be available depending on the gifting of the volunteers. All staff and VS workers meet daily for devotions and have many opportunities to give and receive the love of Christ.

Yellow Ribbon Program 09/18/99
    The South/Central Indiana District of the Church of the Brethren has initiated a Yellow Ribbon program and would like to invite all other CotB districts, other denominations and individuals to join in "Tying a Yellow Ribbon" in memory of victims of shootings and violence. The program was initiated Sept. 16, 1999. You may contact Ron Finney, District Minister at 219/982-8805 or by e-mail at RFinney_gb@brethren.org or SCIndianaCob@ctlnet.com

    Following is the message that was sent out to all district CotB congregations by Dee Grindle, Secretary S/C Indiana District ngrindle@hoosierlink.net

    Following the reports of shooting and violence in a Baptist Church in Texas on September 15, 1999, which is one more of many acts of hate and violence throughout our country in recent weeks, Brother J.P. Freeman has invited us to join the Living Faith Church of the Brethren Flora, Indiana to wear or tie yellow ribbons as a symbol:

    -- in support of the congregation suffering violence, in their time of shock and grief;

    -- as a reminder for us all to pray and work for an end to violence.

    Continuing the work of Jesus ... Peacefully ... Simply ... Together.

Ron & Harriet Finney, District Ministers

Calling Deacons 08/18/99
    I would be interested in learning about how other congregations elect/call their Deacons. Who may serve? Husbands and their wives? Single men? Single women? Is the wife of a deceased deacon still considered a deaconess? Etc. I would appreciate your imput on this subject. Thanks!
